The 1st Wheelchair Ultimate State Championship, held in Faridabad, Haryana, marked a landmark moment for the promotion of inclusive and adaptive sports in India. Organized by Wheelchair Ultimate India in association with Umoya Sports, the championship brought together 30 wheelchair athletes, forming six competitive teams, each demonstrating remarkable determination, skill, and teamwork on the field.
Ahead of the championship, a training camp conducted on January 10, 2026, provided athletes with an opportunity to refine their skills, build coordination, and prepare physically for the tournament. This structured progression from training to competitive match play helped ensure that participants were well-prepared for the demands of the sport.
Throughout both the training camp and the championship matches, The NeuroAid and Research Foundation (NRF) played a pivotal role by providing dedicated physiotherapy support and athlete care. Recognizing the physical demands of wheelchair-based Ultimate Frisbee—particularly on the shoulders, upper limbs, core stability, and endurance—the Foundation prioritized athlete safety, injury prevention, and optimal performance.
NRF’s physiotherapy services included pre-match physical assessments for all athletes, sport-specific warm-up and recovery protocols, on-field and off-field management of muscle fatigue, overuse injuries, and minor strains, as well as guidance on wheelchair posture, propulsion techniques, and self-management strategies. This continuous support enabled athletes to train effectively, recover safely, and compete with confidence throughout the tournament.
Pre-match physical examinations on all 30 athletes.
Injury prevention protocols (files for sport-specific warm-up and recovery routines included);

Guidance on wheelchair posture, pushing techniques and self management.
The championship stands as a powerful example of how inclusive sports initiatives, when supported by professional healthcare services, can create safer and more empowering sporting environments for athletes with disabilities. Such collaborations play a vital role in strengthening the development of adaptive sports and advancing the vision of greater accessibility, participation, and sporting excellence in India.
