Neuroaid provides physiotherapy support to Delhi Wheelchair Cricket Team

The Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF) proudly partners with the Delhi Wheelchair Cricket team as their official Physical Therapy service provider. IWPL-3 commenced with an inauguration by Yash Dhull, the Indian under-19 captain.

Neuroaid offered essential on-site physiotherapy support to the Delhi wheelchair cricket team. Services included pre- and post-warm-up and cool-down sessions, along with on-field preventive and curative treatment techniques. The tournament kicked off at Delhi’s Dwarka Bal Bhawan International School on 21 June 2022, spanning four matches leading up to the finals. Match convenor Mr Manoj Sinha and the Delhi team captain expressed their satisfaction with NRF’s professional and expert care for their players throughout the series.

This event garnered coverage from various news agencies such as Hindustan Live, Nav Bharat Times, and City Spidey. Additionally, it was broadcast online at www.worldcricket.com

Cricket isn’t merely a game in India; it’s an emotion, with intense passion and determination evident in every match. The Indian Wheelchair Premier League, Season 3, held from 21st to 25th June 2022, saw over a hundred wheelchair players and multiple teams from every state showcasing their love for cricket at the venue.

As sports physiotherapists for para-athletes, our focus lies in enhancing athletes’ abilities while addressing their limitations. We provided tailored treatments, effective recovery strategies, and coaching support, ensuring athletes remained active and performed at their best.

During the league, our team analysed injury mechanisms and provided on-field physiotherapy when needed. We conducted warm-up sessions targeting muscle groups prone to sprains and strains, especially the shoulder and trunk muscles essential for wheelchair players.

We encountered challenges such as managing body temperature fluctuations in players with spinal injuries, necessitating precautionary measures against heat stroke during summer matches. Immediate medical attention was provided to players including Mr Tejpal Yadav, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Despite their disabilities, players exhibited exceptional dedication and talent, motivating us with their passion for the game. We addressed issues such as chronic low back pain through tailored exercise regimens, emphasising the importance of upper back muscle strength.

The league showcased inspiring stories of resilience, like that of Mr Sunil Yadav, who overcame polio to pursue cricket passionately. The IWPL, akin to IPL, resumed its third season after a hiatus due to Covid-19, with Sunil’s team, the Delhi Challengers, emerging as first runners-up. Sunil acknowledged the support of NRF, crucial in ensuring medical assistance during the league.

The grand finale between Delhi and Rajasthan presented challenges, with players fatigued yet determined. Our team worked tirelessly, providing support to both teams with stretching sessions and injury prevention measures. Despite Delhi’s loss, the event was a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and resilience.

Chief guests Mr Vinod Thakur and Mr Gulfam Ahmed added to the event’s highpoints, sharing their inspiring stories and acknowledging the role of physiotherapists in their lives. Their presence highlighted the importance of inclusive sports and the support provided by organisations like Neuroaid.

The Indian Wheelchair Premier League, Season 3, was a testament to the power of sports in overcoming challenges and fostering inclusivity. Neuroaid remains committed to supporting para-athletes and promoting their well-being on and off the field.
