At Ramjas School RK Puram : Talk on importance of early identification & handling Children with Special Needs

A lecture was organized by the Principal of Ramjas School, RK Puram, New Dehi on 25 August 2023, on the Importance of Early Identification and Handling Children with Special Needs. The event was conducted under the aegis of NRF’s ‘Be Informed’ awareness series.

The hour-long talk aimed at empowering the teachers to be able to understand the need of regular screening in children especially till the age of 6 years. The two person team comprised of Dr. Monika Srivastava, Lead OT and Dr. Sonal Sharma, Lead PT. They were introduced by the School Counsellor.

Dr Monika Srivastava introduced NRF and highlighted the role of the Foundation over the past few years through statistics on outpatient care. She spoke at length about the importance of identifying children with delays and commencing therapy as early as possible. She also explained the red flags for developmental delays typically seen in schools and outlined the indicators of poor school performance through a detailed presentation. Sensitising teachers about the perils of labelling a child without a proper diagnosis was dwelled upon through sharing of real life experiences.

Thirty-five teachers of Ramjas School attended. It was interactive, with the teachers sharing many of their concerns. Our experienced therapists answered their queries with skill and competence. Verbal feedback was taken to gauge the relevance and effectiveness of the content shared, and for any suggestions that could help in improving the same. The school authorities and teachers appreciated the workshop and expressed their desire to collaborate with NRF going forward.
