About Us
The Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF) is a Public Charitable Trust registered under the Indian Trust Act 1889, bearing registration number 325 dated 10th January 2006. The Foundation was born out of a deeply cherished desire of uplifting neurologically disabled patients with minimal cost and without compromising on quality; with the earnest resolve to make a significant difference in the lives of those with neurological deficits; of those with little or no access to quality, long-term, integrated rehabilitation services. A team of like-minded doctors and healthcare administrators joined hands as the founding members of NRF, with a view to spreading awareness, reaching out to the masses and voicing the importance and healing powers of long-term physical therapy.
Neuro-rehabilitation is a complex medical process which aims to aid recovery from a nervous system injury, and to minimize and/or compensate for any functional alterations resulting from it. Some major conditions that benefit from neuro-rehabilitation include Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s Disease, Brain injury (Anoxic, Traumatic etc.), Multiple Sclerosis, Post-polio Syndrome, Guillain–Barré syndrome, etc. With over 30 million people suffering from neurological disorders in India and a significant section belonging to the economically underprivileged sections of society, the founding members of NRF felt a compelling need to contribute their mite at restoring their functions and helping them integrate back into their communities through competent care and compassion. The need for a wholesome neuro-rehabilitation programme especially in a developing nation like India where access to even primary healthcare is limited at best cannot be over emphasized. The programme assumes even greater significance in view of the fact that often those afflicted with neurological conditions requiring rehabilitation are primary earning members of their families and the subsequent loss of income in these families adds to the neglect and apathy that such individuals face. The field of neuro-rehabilitation makes it possible not only to ‘add years to life’ but also – and equally important – to ‘add life to years.’ Neurological rehabilitation service in developing countries like India is a great challenge in view of limited resources and manpower. It is a multidisciplinary teamwork, and is currently limited to a few major cities in the country. In this context, the need to educate, promote and invest in neuro-rehabilitation is definitely of huge significance and tremendous efforts are required in the current scenario to bridge the large gaps existing in this highly challenging field.
Our Story
The sapling that was planted to bring about a change in neurologically disabled patients was nurtured through the most cherished initiatives of NRF.
In India, most people from economically challenged backgrounds do not have the access to rehabilitation that can minimize or eliminate their cognitive disorders, in coordination and strength issues developed due to injuries or birth defects. There is also a lack of awareness and ability to afford the right continued treatment. These concerning issues often detach patients from society, causing emotional deprivation and making them financially weak due to lack of employment opportunities and physical dependence.
NRF was born out of the deeply cherished desire of uplifting neurologically disabled patients with minimal cost without compromising on quality. A team of like-minded doctors and healthcare administrators brought The Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF) into existence in January 2006 to spread awareness about neurological disabilities. The idea being to make people realise the importance of long-term rehabilitation in creating a sustainable life and increasing sensitivity for neuro-patients in society. We are determined to ensure that rehabilitation becomes the “Science of Life” for neuro-patients by adding a touch of humanity to their lives and bringing order and peace in their life journeys. With our focus on spreading rehabilitation awareness, we wish to reach out to the masses and voice the importance and healing powers of long-term physical therapy.
We pride ourselves on bringing back our neuro-patients into the main stream of the society, so that they have an easy access to more employment opportunities, giving dignity to their lives along with a sense of social inclusion. At NRF, we not only focussing on the “in clinic” treatment but also assist in reaching out to patients with a holistic health approach to spread awareness on body and mind issues and help strike a perfect balance for a healthy, happy & long life.
We do not just provide rehabilitation; we renew hope in humanity!
